Dahab - Profile |
"Inspired by Sinai, a magical and sacred land, DAHAB's music can be defined
as
"acoustic ethnic rock with a 70's influence". The trio comprises of Sharif
Maghraby, (composer/lead and rhythm guitarist/backing vocals) Majid Fassi,
(composer/lead and rhythm guitars/lead vocals) and Adham Sharkawy 'the man'
on
percussion with an arabic feel. "We play by actively listening to each
other and
aspire to always create an emotional connection with the audience" - DAHAB.
'DAHAB' is a small Bedouin village in Sinai about 100km north of Sharm El Sheikh and it is renowned as a place where musicians and artists go to create and improvise. 'It is a place which we all agree has given us great times, great friends, great passion, great music and of course a feeling of harmony, peace and being one with nature'. This is the essence of the band and most of their music has been composed in Sinai - hence the name of their first album 'Spirit of Sinai'.
Based in Dubai, DAHAB has performed at the Dubai International Jazz
Festival,
Peanut Butter Jam, Dubai Lime Open Mic events, and have shared the stage
alongside the famous legends of Reggae, The Wailers (of Bob Marley and The
Wailers). I'd say the group has come along way since embarking on their
musical
journey back in 2004.
Being influenced by many greats such as Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Led
Zeppelin,
Eric Clapton, Bob Marley, Lenny Kravitz, Santana, Tracy Chapman and of
Arabic
origin DAHAB are due to release 'Spirit of Sinai' in January 2009.
