Ish - Profile Interview |
|
For about ten years now. Where you from? Colombo, Sri Lanka. Can you remember the first time you picked up a guitar or any musical instrument? I got my first guitar when I was thirteen and I started learning to play just then, I remember the frustration that came from wanting to strum to a song over the first few months as I was starting from scratching. How about song writin, when did you learn to write songs? I started writing songs when I was about sixteen, of course they we were silly teen lyrics when I look back at them now, and I feel some of my best work was done over the past 3 years. Is there a particular genre in your music? or bands and artists that influence your music?
Definitely, acoustic rock/ alternative/ rock..i would best describe my music as an influence of a music style of bands like, coldplay, goo goo dolls, matchbox 20 and a lyrical similarity more towards bands like lifehouse, travis and even the bee gees..some of my older interests run to Van Morrison, Cindy Lauper, Rolling Stones. I get inspired by the all sorts of things..be it a word or phrase, a person, an experience, observation of the lives and experiences of other people/ friends/ family, even ambient sounds that can sometimes create the mood or a setting and also a story or a thought that can be elaborated through lyrics, sometimes combined with the ambiguity of an abstract play on words which can keep the listener thinking and come up with their own interpretation of the song - all of which makes songwriting a vast and exciting thing for me. Do you have any achievements in your music before that you wouldike to share? The fact that people enjoy my music; my famliy, freinds and even complete strangers is the biggest achievment for me. What are you up to these days? any upcoming events or gigs and perhaps an album? I'm working on recording some tracks for an EP CD that I hope to relase after Ramadan at the Loft. How long you been in Dubai? and what can you say about Dubai?

I've been in Dubai since december last year..I like living here..besides the overwhelming traffic at some hours of the day and the temperature, I think Dubai is a great place to live in. I love salsa! I took a few lessons back home and can do a few basic moves, but really admire the professionals..its a very artistic and sensual movement of a pair of bodies..a man and woman truly in sync with each other on the dance floor doing the salsa like free-flowing water is definitely a sight well worth watching for me. Also good at drama and acting. Did some part time modelling back in Colombo for mass media and fashion shows. Any word of wisdom and encouragement to those who will be reading your profile? Do what makes you happy in life. Its how you look at life that makes your life, not always the way we might see things by default - may not be easy for some but doing your best to live by these two guidelines could help a little :-) Do you have anything to say about about Dubai Lime? I think its great the there is such an organization in Dubai. Dubai Lime has given me good oportunities to expose my music to the public here in Dubai. Cheers to Dubai Lime and its amazing staff! |
