Michael never really liked guitar when he was younger. He tried to learn but couldn't seem to understand it enough and he never really practiced enough, so he stopped playing and went to piano instead. When he was about 17, his brother, a guitarist, went away for four months and Michael had to fill his place in a gospel band. He had very little ability on guitar at that stage but he quickly learned all the songs and for the next four years he played in the band as a lead vocalist. Michael’s influences in music change daily, however, "Something For Kate" are his favourite band of all time. They are an Australian based 3 piece rock/folk/indy band. He used to go to their gigs when it still cost 5 dollars and now they play to sold out shows across Australia. They’ve remained his favourite band because they are still producing awesome music and he watched them get big, almost from day one. At around 19 Michael started writing music to express strong feelings and to portray things that would be hard to say with words alone and without the cover of his voice and guitar. So far, he has written about love, disappointment, politics, relationships, belief and hope. He does not consider himself a virtuoso but likes that people can relate to his music and enjoy listening to it. His inspiration for his music is closely linked with his beliefs, hope for the future and the interaction he has with the world around him. He has always tried to keep in mind who he is and what he stands for when he writes and performs his music which is always so evident when watching him play. Michael is a regular at Lime Jam open mic coffee shop gigs around Dubai, and recently he played the Lime Green Theatre session at The Loft. He also plays each Friday night at Peanut Butter Jam on the Wafi Rooftop! Michael’s passion stems further than just Dubai life and Music. If he wasn’t working as an Engineer and playing music across Dubai you might find him doing foreign aid work in Africa. He quoted, "There are so many people that are way less privileged than all of us and I would like to one day play a role in changing that". That said, he really likes living in Dubai and is glad to be part of new things, new initiatives and new scenes. He enjoys the developing aspect of Dubai life, and loves the cultural diversity. If Michael had to share a word of wisdom to everyone it would be this; "You were made to only ever be yourself. So, spend time defining who you are and always stay true to that. Its easier to achieve this if you don't compare yourself to other people too much. You were made to be you!"
