Paul Nolan - Profile |
Paul Nolan picked up a guitar at the age of eleven when his junior high required him to study music. He has been playing for six years or so, in cover bands and performing solo inside and around his hometown. The first song that he learned was Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison, that his father taught him when he first got his guitar. His influences include; The Verve, Ray Lamontagne, Tracey Chapman, Jack Johnson, Nick Drake, and The Saw Doctors. However, Paul Nolan's favorite artist is Damien Rice.
He loved Damien's voice and song writing style but the melodies and lyrics are the two elements that really infected Paul, thus he begun to seriously write after he first heard Damien's song.
Being in Dubai for only less than a year; besides meeting new friends and the sunshine, what keeps him going is music. He is a regular at Lime Jam, the Loft open mic and he is also a contract musician at El Paso with his cousin doing an acoustic duo on Saturdays. He also does administration job for his cousin's football academy.
Although he only has a guitar in Dubai, back in his home country Paul owned PA system, 3 guitar amps, fender telecaster and a digital 8 track recorder.
Paul do not usually wait for inspirations. His songs just seem to come out from nowhere, he does not try to write them, but they just happen. Mostly, his songs are about the way he personally feel or if something happened. He really loved playing music and listening to music.
There is nothing he would rather do; and he would like to try his best and is hoping that he could get his songs out to hear for people all over the world. Something that he would like to share to everyone; " Don't ever regret not doing something. Packing my job in and moving out here is the best thing I've ever done.
There are places to see and people to meet outside of your home town, the worlds a big place. If you want to do something, go for it". Besides playing guitar, writing songs and singing, Paul is also pretty good at impressions.
However, music is still the most important to him as well as his family and friends.
