How long have you been playing Music? I started singing when I was small in the school choir and was always performing in the school concerts all the way up through school. But it wasn't till I went to live in Rome, Italy in 1991 that I really started to perform live as a singer. I started by singing chorus in a Rhythm and Blues band and after a few months with them I because the lead vocalist. I then went on to sing in several different cover bands as lead vocalist doing rock, blues, soul music. I also formed an acoustic duo which became one of the only acoustic acts in Dubai to fill Radio Londra Café on a Saturday night. I had a five piece rock, blues band for 3 or 4 years and the acoustic duo and we played in all the Irish pubs in Rome and in many other venues. In 1998 I met another song writer called Massimo Marracini who was a bit of a musical genius playing any instrument he put his hands to. He asked me to join him with writing some original material so I gladly accepted and we started to work together. A year later we decided to move back to my home town in Dublin to take our music a step further as my cousin was a big shot in the music industry. We recorded 4 tracks and sent them to him and he gave us the go ahead to come to Ireland and work in his studio free of charge. After another few months at home we flew back to Rome to record 7 more songs. Unfortunately the band broke up in 2000 and Max and I went our separate ways. So, in all I have been playing music for 18 years on a professional level and writing original music for 9 years on and off. How long have you been living in Dubai?
In September I will be in Dubai 4 years.
What do you honestly think of Dubai Lime? I think it is a fantastic idea and it is wonderful to see original music being promoted in such a great way. I think its about time that someone took the initiative to let music grow Dubai and I can only see it getting better and better. I would like to see it take off throughout Dubai in many other venues. Can you remember the first time you picked up a guitar?
I don't play guitar very well unfortunately.
What was the first song you learnt to play? I think it was Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi. Whats your normal day job? What does it involve? I am a personal assistant in an investment banking company which involves managing the life of the Chief Financial Officer of the company. What musical influences do you have, who is your favorite artist or band and why? I have many many influences such as Alanis Morisette, Amy Winehouse, Erika Badu, Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, Macy Grey. I love artists who really have something strong to say, a message in their lyrics and I love when there are hidden messages in lyrics, I love people who connect with their public and have charisma. Fiona Apple really inspires me too for the depth in her music. And lastly I like Nick Cave and Portishead for showing me the darker side to the soul. If you were not doing your day job, and were not a pro musician what job would you do? I would work in a studio for sure. And why? I just love the atmosphere in a studio and the buzz and excitement of being around creative people. I love anything to do with creativity and therefore this atmosphere would be sure to inspire me to write more. If not I would be a writer. What is the most important lesson of your life that you can share with readers of your profile? That this is not a dress rehersal. Time is ticking so you need to focus 100% on your dream to get it done. NEVER listen to what other people say or think unless it is positive criticism. If you want something go and get it and believe in yourself 100%. I wasted a lot of time listening to people telling me I should be doing a serious job and not wasting my time with music, I didn't believe in myself enough and therefore I wasted a lot of precious time that I am trying to make up for now. We all have a gift, know what your gift is and live, eat, sleep and dream it till you have your dream come true!! What are the most important things in your life? Love, Family, getting to know myself fully, being in touch with my higher purpose, MUSIC, my lyrics and getting better at what I do, meeting interesting like minded people from all over the world. Facing up to life's challenges. What is in the list of your music toys? The old faithful SM58 Microphone, Yamaha acoustic guitar, Roland full length keyboard, harmonica, egg shakers, tambourine ...think that's it!! What's the best one and why? My keyboard as its what I use to write my songs. When I play it takes me far away to another place. Its like flying. What's the best thing about living in Dubai?
The amount of different nationalities you get to meet here. I don't think you have such a mix anywhere in the world. English, Irish, Italian and I understand French and Spanish. When you write your original music, what gets your creative juices flowing? The sound of the guitar or the piano. I only need to hear a few chords and the words and melodies start to come to me. It usually happens quickly when it's a good song. The worlds sort of pour out of me onto the page and I cant write them quick enough. I need time alone to get this going but it is usually when I am at my most vulnerable that the best songs present themselves. Do you have any other hidden talents? I love acting. I have always wanted to be an actress but music seemed to take over. So I would love to combine the two one day.
