Music Gear Review this week - Beyerdynamic Opus 81 |
|
It's the second week of music gear reviews from Alister Vowles, Audio and Production Engineer of Lime Green Entertainment. If you like to buy something or just to have a general knowledge about music gears, its better to listen and talk to the experts. Here's Alistair's review about Beyerdynamic Opus 81:
"If you are looking for an affordable, high-end condenser microphone, you cannot get much more value for money than this microphone. The internals of this microphone are housed in a rugged live casing. With its cardioid polar pattern and its 50–18000hz frequency range there is no instrument that this microphone cannot replicate to a high and professional level. But where this microphone really excels is when recording vocals. I have personally put this microphone up against much more expensive and “apparently” higher quality microphones and it ran with the best of them. Its sound is indistinguishable from the more commonly known Rhode NT-1 and due to its more streamline appearance it is perfect for live concerts and parties. The only slight problem that I can find with this microphone is that the inbuilt pop filter has little or no effect so if you were planning on using this microphone in a studio situation I would recommend purchasing at two-ply pop filter for optimum recoding quality". |
