Maya Youssef

My name is Maya Youssef, and I am a solo kanun player graduated in music from the High Institute of Music in Damascus, Syria.

Kanun is an Arabic classical instrument with a huge potential of playing many types of music, it can be an independent orchestra by it self. 

I come from an artistic family which encouraged me to start playing kanun at the age of 10, where I have been learning Arabic classical , Azerbaijani, Turkish and classical music. 

I performed compositions of Bach , Mozart ,Vivaldi....on kanun. And started performing on stage as a soloist at the age of 11.

In 2003 I founded a group of female performers and we performed in important festivals in Europe and in Asia.

Parallel to my studies in music, I was studying English Literature in Damascus University and now I am in my last year.

After my graduation in music I moved to Dubai and focused on building my career as a soloist, and performed in AlQasba, Alowais Foundation ,Burj AlArab........etc
