Dubai Original Music Starts at Berts

Almost a year into starting the Dubai Lime to promote Dubai Original music the scene has grown from 2 of us running one open mic once a week to running an events company, to a web development company - so whats next.

When we started Dubai Lime we wanted to provide a forum for original music in Dubai, we had one gig that soon got full, then 2, then 4 and now 6.  Soon we were getting requirements for events companies, malls, corporates a bit of everything.  We needed to start a proper events company - so we did.  Now Lime Green Entertainments is one of the best known entertainments companies in Dubai, we have over 40 customers - we are just about to start our own record label - Lime Green Records from our new studio in Bur Dubai ( Not for profit I may add) and the events are getting full again. 

So where is the Dubai Music scene - well you can see music in Dubai any of the nights - but if you want to see the uber cool real original music scene a small Cafe called Berts in the Marina district of Dubai is still where its at.  

Tuesday night at Berts you will only see musos - the cafe is packed right now I am sat in a throng of over 50 people listening to original music - from Blues, Alternative Rock and really some very good material is on its way out of Dubai. 

Dubai Lime just secured its first sponsor - Blue Banana for the open mic events - the guys that only a few months ago were playing in thier bedroom now play to the public three of four times a week, they play on our radio show with 92, they are about to feature in our music TV show and now we can even give them studio time. 

How do I feel - well I am sat in Berts enjoying my Latte - Life is good - this is good and its getting much much better.  The most important thing is that we are really getting the respect of the music community we set out to serve.  We have provided everything we set out to at the start with the launch of the studio.  Of course everyone knows there is no money in music - we run the open mics as a not for profit and we use the forum to promote our web development company that pays for the running of the music scene. 

Its one of the few things in Dubai that isnt about the money here - but as the community develops and with some of the levelers that we have put in place such as the music and art events The Dubai music and Arts scene is really starting to get its own feeling.  Where can you be surrounded by original music - original art and down to earth people in Dubai - come for a coffee in Berts on a Tuesday.....see you there.
