The Galeej Gurus - Music Takes us There |
|
“I’m hypnotized, Dubai is not a rock’n’roll paradise. Fortunately several organizations are trying to promote the so-called “local scene” and also organize gigs with international artists… things are going slowly but steady. We have just enjoyed the most important rock / metal event that Dubai hosts every year: Dubai Desert Rock Festival. This was the ideal opportunity not only to enjoy well-known bands such as Machine Head, Korn, Velvet Revolver or Muse, but also to discover new talents from Middle East, Asia and Africa on the Shamal Battle of the Bands, which gives the winner the opportunity to open DDRF on both days. This year The Galeej Gurus opened the hostilities! This Bangalore based band knows what is doing, as they have been together since 2000 and have played a large number of gigs, opening for huge acts such as Deep Purple, The Rasmus or Bryan Adams. They combine a skilled rock sound with a modern vibe: the perfect mix for those who like old-school hard rock music because of its technique, but also enjoy a modern touch! Mix a jazz-influenced drummer, an amazing 2 guitar combination, a skilled bass player and a vocalist not only with a versatile voice but that makes audiences jump and make some noise all along their performances… and you’ll have The Galeej Gurus. At DDRF The Galeej Gurus were the perfect warm-up for an audience thirsty of rock! Can you picture something like a Guns’n’Roses sound with a twist of nu-metal energy, a drummer confident enough not to follow trends or rock clichés, a smiley guitarist on one side, mysterious looking and sounding bassist, charismatic guitarist on the other side and a vocalist that hits whatever notes he wants to and specially hits the crowd revealing so much passion on what he’s doing? If I made you curious enough, check their music and videos on www.myspace.com/galeej The Galeej Gurus have recently played at Zahra Soar’s Open Mic on Dubai 92 and will soon be featured on the Dubai Lime podcast in http://www.dubailime.com/ By Zara Quiroga |
